Anyone who knows me well enough will know this was a long time coming XD I have been a fan of, and have been collecting MLP stuff for…ever. I tried to hold back posting my fan art of this cause its been in a viral explosion lately XD (not that I mind of course haha).
In my honest opinion, while I have been a fan for most of my life I do believe that Lauren Faust has created the breath of fresh air that MLP desperately needed both stylistically and for opening the door to a MUCH more enjoyable show to watch (I mean let’s face it, the old MLP shows were OK for their time…but they are just plain boring and awkward now… at least to me XD.) The characters now have much more character and the plots actually have wit, and its viral popularity really shows this success of good design.
I am also studying animation, and I am constantly being pushed to try and simplify my style haha, so these guys are great practice for style and form I am uncomfortable with Done at schoolololol
The reasons would be diffrent for everyone, but for myself - The old MLP, possibly nostalgia value. I am an 80’s child and I grew up with watching it on TV, having it on my lunchboxes and being given their toys to play with. I have always collected the toys, it’s just one of those things I have always done. I am also studying with the dreams of being an animator and what I grew up with and collected for so many years becomes an inspiration and muse for me to keep trying. I am not saying MLP is what makes me do art, its just one of those contributors that set me on that path.
The new MLP - Again all about animation and especially muse. The new show is a fantastic example of how wonderfully something can appeal to a wider ranged audience than its pre-decesor did. Its witty, light hearted and snappy with great animation in all its simplicity and great character development for its world. It takes a much fresher and much more appealing step away from the rediculous airy fairy girly perfect female images that cartoons have always been forced down little girls throats. And it instead offers them more belivable and diverse characters with flaws and attitudes of their own.
In short? I personally am attracted to the new series first by nostalgic value, and secondly and most importantly by the new creative structure it has taken in both design and story telling. Its amusing, fun and I enjoy viewing it.
I love this!!!! Rainbow Dash is the best!!! I LOVE how you drew her!!! ^^
